Harmless
(Harmless Snakes)
Typically most people think of snakes as dangerous creatures even though the majority of West Australian species are quite harmless to humans.
The use of venom is to subdue and immobilize prey for the snake to feed. As the majority of our smaller species of snake are mostly lizard feeders, the small amounts of venom produced are lethal to small lizards but quite in effective to humans and other mammals. Some bites will give similar symptoms as an ant or insect sting while others will show no effects at all. Many species lack fangs capable of penetrating human skin while some do not even attempt to bite, as if this was not even an option in their defensive instincts.
Saying that, we advise people to regard all wild snakes as potentially dangerous. Proper identification of snakes can be difficult and any reptiles in the wild should be treated with caution and respect.
